What if you don’t need to be coached—Just reconnected?

  • Sanne The Wild Roots Guide

I used to think healing meant fixing myself. But the more I “worked on myself,” the worse I felt.

I used to think healing meant fixing myself.

Armed with a psychology degree and years of training in REBT, ACT, and polyvagal theory, I thought I had all the tools. I read every self-help book. I went to therapy. I filled in worksheets at a white desk in a white room, trying to understand what stimulus led to what response—and how I could correct my reactions.

But the more I “worked on myself,” the worse I felt.

Severe anxiety took over. I was so unwell I was afraid to leave the house. My body had betrayed me (leaving me partially bedridden). My mind wouldn't cooperate. And therapy—despite my belief in its potential—only made me feel more broken. All the effort made me feel like a failure.

Then, something shifted.

A few friends invited me to go camping. I've told you this story before, in other blogs and it even made it to the "about me" page. The camping trip took everything I had in me. But when I arrived, I sat quietly in front of my tent, and—for the first time in what felt like forever—I felt… better.

Not fixed. Not cured. But soothed. Doing so much better physically and mentally.

And I remember thinking, Why?

That moment led me down a rabbit hole of research. I learned about the psychological, physical, emotional, ancestral effects of being in nature. I dove into outdoor coaching, forest bathing, and eco-psychology. And slowly, a quiet truth emerged:

Maybe I didn’t need more insight.
Maybe I needed to remember something deeper.
Maybe I didn’t need to be coached—just reconnected.

Nature Was My Turning Point

From then on, I brought nature into my life as often as I could.

Some days, this meant sitting in a parked car with the window down. Other days, it was a short walk. Or just noticing the moon. Or feeling the sun on my skin. Nature became a lifeline, a refuge, and eventually—a teacher.

One moment I’ll never forget: I was journaling by a bridge, wrestling with the question we all ask at some point—Why am I here? What is my purpose?

I noticed a single drop of water, falling from the bridge, landing in the same place over and over again. Drip. Drip. Drip.

And then it came to me:

What if I’m just a drop of water?
Contributing to the shape of the river, forming the canyons. Insignificant on my own. Undeniable in time.

It shifted something in me forever.

Nature didn’t just help me cope. It helped me belong. To my body. To the Earth. To the rhythms that have always held us.

Stop Fixing. Start Listening.

If you’ve been on the self-help treadmill—seeking, trying, optimizing—I want to gently ask:

What if you no longer have to “fix” yourself?
What if you’re already whole, and just disconnected?
What if the clarity, the grounding, the wisdom you long for is already around (and within) you?

Nature offers you mentorship that is ancient, kind, unhurried.

As Bernard of Clairvaux said:

“Believe me, for I know, you will find something far greater in the woods than in books. Stones and trees will teach you that which you cannot learn from the masters.”

This Course Was Made for My Younger Self

Over five years ago, I created the Nature Connection Course. It was everything I wish I’d had when I was struggling:

  • Deep practices to reconnect with the land

  • Tools to listen to yourself (and nature) more clearly

  • Seasonal wisdom to guide you through transitions

  • And a reminder: you are not broken—you are human

Since then, this course has supported dozens of people around the world. Some complete it slowly, over time. Some return to it season after season. It’s designed to meet you where you are.

And now, I’m letting it go.

The way I teach has changed. But before I retire this course, I want to honour it—and offer one final walk through the forest.

This Is the Last Chance to Join

Enrollment closes June 9th, and this is the final time it will ever be offered.

Everyone who joins this last round gets:

  • Lifetime access to the full Nature Connection Course

  • A bonus Herbal Recipe Guide to make your own natural herbal products

  • An online seasonal gathering on June 20th, to connect, reflect, and celebrate

You don’t need to rush. It’s self-paced, flexible, and gentle.
But if you feel the call—this is your sign to follow it.

You Don’t Need to Be Coached. Just Reconnected.

If you’re tired of striving... If your nervous system is begging for rest... If your soul is aching for something real...

Come sit with us in the forest.

Let the wind remind you.
Let the water soften you.
Let the Earth welcome you back home.
